Management Team

All Freshwater Fish operations and corporate decision-making is managed by a seven-member Management Team.

The Management Team works tirelessly to ensure fishers receive the most they can for their catch, customers receive the highest quality wild-caught products possible and our own employees experience the most productive, supportive workplace in the industry.

Stan Lazar - Interim President

Stan Lazar is a results-oriented senior executive with extensive financial and operational experience gained in national and international corporations. Stan’s professional background, and strong organizational, analytical and decision-making skills merge to provide effective fiscal leadership for Freshwater Fish. Interpersonal and communication skills make him the valued leader of the executive team. Stan enjoys the opportunity to work with fishers and employees to contribute to Freshwater Fish’s success today and ensure continued growth in the future.

Wendy Matheson - Vice-President of Human Resources and Government Services

Wendy Matheson is a senior administrator with more than 20 years of progressive experience and expertise in HR Management and federal government services. Wendy enjoys the challenge of understanding unique organizational cultures. As a graduate of Queens University's Labour Relations program and a Registered Professional Recruiter, Wendy identifies and addresses people-related risks, enhances performance and productivity and offers HR initiatives to help Freshwater improve and grow.

Eddie Campbell – Vice-President of Sales and Marketing

Eddie Campbell is a seasoned sales and marketing professional, with 25 years of progressive experience with national and international consumer packaged goods companies. Eddie’s proactive, practical approach to leadership and his can do attitude have produced excellent results and the development of top-tier teams across Canada. He understands the dynamics of channel marketing and believes in building lasting relationships and mutually-beneficial outcomes with all stakeholders. Eddie has tackled new and diverse assignments throughout his career that have allowed him the opportunity to live and work in Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax and now Winnipeg.

Denis Lavallee - Controller

Denis Lavallee, CPA, CA, has worked with a number of Winnipeg's industry-leading organizations throughout his career. He is a professional with excellent analytical and systems development skills. Denis has a proven track record of providing strong financial leadership to the private and publicly-held organizations he has served.

Dawn Kjarsgaard - Director of Plant Operations

Dawn Kjarsgaard graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree and a double major in food science and applied microbiology. She has held a position as Lead Auditor at ISO. Her career in food sciences spans 25 years, 19 of which are invested at Freshwater. Hired as the HACCP Coordinator, she was promoted in the QA Department to Supervisor, Manager, and Director QA and Technical Services, to her current position as Director of Plant Operations (2016).

Dave Bergunder - Vice-President of Field Operations

Dave Bergunder began his lifelong career with Freshwater Fish when he was a Bachelor of Science student at the University of Manitoba. He started out as a part-time dock worker in Selkirk, graduating to a full-time employee stationed in Fort Chippewa (AB), the Gunnar fish plant in Lake Athabasca (SK), and in northern Manitoba. He was promoted to Zone Manager in Hay River, NWT and managed the processing plant there from 1980 to 2000. Since then, he has been at the Winnipeg head office as Field Operations Manager, Director of Field Operations,and currently Vice-President of Field Operations. He supervises 3 regional and 2 field office managers. A professional, well-respected expert with a flawless record of dedicated performance, Dave has logged countless miles across Canada supporting and serving Freshwater's 1600+ producers.

Sandi Cain - Executive Assistant and Web Administrator

Sandi Cain graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts, English Specialist degree. She held the position of President’s Assistant at the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange for 7 years, prior to being hired to create the new Executive Assistant role at Freshwater Fish in 2000. Sandi provides senior administrative support to Freshwater’s President and CEO, Board of Directors, Audit and Risk Committee, and Management Team. She writes and coordinates all corporate communications, and is the website administrator.
